Cinque Terre

We started out exploring the Italian Riviera's Cinque Terre in Riomaggiore. The five villages are known for their gorgeous multicolored buildings sprinkled along the cliffside, overlooking the Mediterranean Ocean. Pronouciation: Chink-wa Tera.

We were encouraged to explore and grab signature to-go snacks to eat along the way. I started out with the fried calamari. Very good, but quite salty!

The tiled tunnels to the train from village to village were beautiful. They really made use of the space and created a unique art experience specific to the Cinque Terre.

The next village we went to was Manarola.

I stopped for a cappuccino and gelato in Manarola to get a break from the rain.

And finally Vernazza.

For lunch I got mussels and a pesto pasta. Cinque Terre is also known for their pesto. Apparently they have the best in all of Italy and my pasta was evidence of that.

And then the rain started again. It was sunny and then all of the sudden the clouds rolled through and the rain poured and poured.

Tomorrow: Beachin' in the Mediterranean.
