13 Reasons Why

I felt compelled to interrupt my travel posts to shed light on a Netflix series I watched over the weekend. Its one of the most powerful and moving pieces I've seen in a while. I look for forms of art that makes me think and feel and 13 Reasons Why made me do both. Its a story about the events leading up to and the aftermath of Hannah Baker's suicide.  Hannah was a sophomore in high school and she was bullied. Not once, but a series of times and in many different ways. She recorded her story on cassette tapes to illustrate the 13 reasons why she did what she did. I encourage everyone to view it on Netflix because this is a story that needs to be told and talked about. Bullying is a real thing. Its not just "boys being boys" or mean-girl drama. 13 Reasons Why shows the perspectives of her parents, her friends, and her enemies.    I found a common theme throughout the show and offered it up to my students in my yoga class as their intention as couple days ago. You never know what someone is going through in their lives, so always be kind. Take a pause and come from a place of understanding instead of automatically reacting. We can judge people without even realizing it, so its so important to come into every situation one step at a time to avoid tearing someone down when you could be building them up. Sometimes all it takes is one voice to change the situation.
Will there be a season 2? I feel like they left it open to continue, but their official account on Twitter still hasn't gotten back to me on my inquiry. We will see...

Bon Jour, Paris!

Experience many views of and from the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France through my eyes today. 

At night, during the day, and even with a little buzz. Cheers!

So pretty and unbelievable. 

Pop, fizz, clink.

Absolutely gorgeous, especially with the music playing. Magical and romantic.

Every hour for five minutes the tower twinkles. You hear the Ooo's and Ahh's. Such a special experience.

To close out our "foodie" day in London, we experienced the art that is sketch. Every detail to this place was well thought out - intriguing, yet weird... 

The hopscotch once we went through the door.

The "pink" room was elegant and the ambiance was pristine. Again, every detail and dish was accounted for in thought.  

And then we set our sites on the walls. Each frame white with black illustrations. Some comical and others random thoughts without an obvious purpose. It felt almost ironic; this beautiful plush room with the most bizarre art. And alas, I loved it. Who says you have to fit into a square box anyway?

Of course I ordered tea. These pieces were actually on display for purchase in the lobby, across from the egg shaped coat room.

I ordered the pan-fried sirloin Black Angus beef with a red wine sauce. One of the best steaks I've ever had.

And just when I thought the environment couldn't get any different, the bathroom stalls were in the shape of eggs. As you walk towards the restroom, there is an enormous white ball with a cut out in the middle with a bar. If you walk up the stairs to the right around the ball, thats for the ladies. The left for the men. It was most definitely a Willy Wonka type experience.
